Q: My screen is sideways 90 degrees. How do I fix that?
A: If you ever needed this, you’re going to be blessing me. If you’ve never faced that off-kilter screen, you’re going to wonder why I’d post this tip.
Of course, I’ve faced it–I run a tech lab and there are always those pesky prodigies who want to outsmart me. They know if they push Ctrl+Alt+(down arrow), it’ll turn the screen upside down. The first time it happened, I was at a loss. That’s when a different pesky prodigy told me how to fix it:
Ctrl+Alt+(up arrow)
I used it at least once a month when I was in the classroom.

I laughed when I saw your Tweet of this blog post. I remember the year several years ago that my school got new computers and this started happening in my labs. I was convinced the new computers were glitchy! It was pretty funny when we figured out what was going on. This is a simple but useful tip to share. Great idea!!!

When I first came up with this tip, I thought most teachers would not relate to it, but it was a solution you’d never come up with if you were faced with an upside down screen. I’m surprised how many people have run into this problem. Who would think those precocious, growing, curious brains we teach would figure this out so young? I have to say, I learn so much from them every year. And now, I’m back at it. Hope you have a wonderful year.
