Lesson Plans for Martin Luther King Day

I have two new lesson plans, both aligned with Common Core, that I’m giving away to help you plan Martin Luther King Day.

4th grade

Students interpret the words of Dr Martin Luther King in their own words in a visual organizer. Great project that gets students thinking about the impact of words on history. Common Core aligned. 7-page booklet includes a sample, step-by-step projects, a rubric for assessment, and additional resources to enrich teaching.

5th grade

Students research events leading up to Dr. Martin Luther King’s impact on American history and share them with an Event Chain organized visually, including pictures and thought bubbles. Aligned with Common Core. 7-page booklet includes a sample, step-by-step projects, a rubric for assessment, and additional resources to enrich teaching.

They use a (FREE) online tool called Nanoogo.

    each other using the rubric”

    Jacqui…I don’t know if this is your lesson from Nanoogo or theirs but the poor children really shouldn’t be called “asses” ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    Thanks for a great idea just when I needed it! Do you already have a folder of copyright-free images you have used? If not I can create my own, but it saves time to share…

      Hi Laura

      I usually have students find their own keeping the legalities of using online images in mind. Just precede their use with a discussion on copyright, plagiarism, and fair use. I also have students credit sources so they get used to doing it. If they find images with watermarks or that won’t copy/download, it’s a great opportunity to discuss the ‘why’ of that.
